RED DEER - Hockey Alberta is pleased to launch its Parent Engagement Video Series, aimed at helping parents navigate through the ups and downs of being a hockey parent.

Social media has seen a rapid rise in popularity in the last decade, and the average age of first-time users continues to decrease. It’s also become a large part of team culture, which poses many opportunities and risks for both individual players, and the team as a whole.

Parents are encouraged to stay involved and monitor their children’s social media activity, and make sure they are responsible with their own social media use. Any inappropriate or irresponsible use of social media can have negative effects on both the individual, and the team, even if it’s not necessarily hockey-related.
